Why Compress Files Before Sharing?

How Compression Works
Image compression reduces file size by removing data imperceptible to the human eye. A quality level of 70–80% typically achieves a 60–80% size reduction with no visible loss. For an online PDF, Vidzilla's PDF tools compress internal structure, embedded images, and metadata. Video and audio use codec optimization to lower bitrate while maintaining high quality playback.
All processing happens on Vidzilla's secure servers. Files are deleted immediately after the compressed output is delivered. You can also strip metadata during compression by enabling the option in the settings, combining two privacy steps into one.

Compression is not conversion
The Compressor reduces size inside the kind of file you upload. A JPG stays an image. A PDF stays a PDF. An MP4 stays video. If you need a different extension, open a converter page instead. Weight problems and format problems are different jobs; mixing them up wastes a pass.
Mixed folders are common: a deck with PNGs, a PDF appendix, and a short MP4 demo. This page accepts those types in one batch so you are not bouncing between four single-purpose tools. Still convert formats on converter pages when the destination demands a new extension by name.
Shrinking first and converting later is fine when both jobs are required. Treating this page as a silent format changer fails—it will not rename MP4 to WEBM or JPG to PNG for you.
Presets versus custom quality knobs
Presets such as Web Optimized, Mobile Optimized, Print Quality, and Maximum Compression set quality and related options in one click. Custom mode exposes quality, optional max width, compression level, and media-specific bitrate controls.
For images, optional max width downscales large photos before or while compressing. For video and audio, bitrate controls decide how hard the encoder squeezes. Higher compression means a smaller file and more visible or audible loss.
Web Optimized balances size for online use. Mobile Optimized pushes smaller phone-friendly files. Print Quality keeps more detail for ink. Maximum Compression takes the smallest size and accepts the most loss. Switch to Custom when a preset undershoots or overshoots your limit.
Batch uploads and the per-file ceiling
Multi-select several files for batch compression. The upload control lists accepted image, PDF, video, and audio types. Free use supports uploads up to 500 MB per file as shown on the tool.
Leave the tab open until each download finishes. Closing early leaves a partial result the same way any interrupted browser download does. Confirm one compressed file opens in the destination app before you delete heavier originals.
Rename outputs as they land. Default names collide when several files share a stem, and a folder of compressed assets becomes hard to search.
Stripping metadata while you shrink
An option removes EXIF, GPS, and similar identifying metadata from images and document info from PDFs before download. Turn it on when you do not want location tags or camera details traveling with the file.
Stripping metadata does not encrypt contents. It only removes those sidecar fields. Password protection for PDFs and encryption for arbitrary files live on their own tool pages when the payload itself must stay closed.
Pair metadata stripping with compression when publishing phone photos to a form that also enforces a size cap. You cut bytes and drop the location trail in one pass.
How each media family responds
Images respond well to quality and max-width controls. A 4000-pixel photo often does not need full width for a web post; capping width cuts size before the encoder works hard.
PDFs shrink when embedded images and redundant objects are recompressed. Text-only PDFs may barely move; scan-heavy PDFs usually drop more. Dedicated Compress PDF help lives on its own page when the packet is PDF-only.
Audio and video trade bitrate for size. Speech tolerates lower settings than music. Short chat clips can use stronger presets than a master you will edit again. Keep one lightly compressed master when the file is a deliverable.
Knowing when to stop squeezing
Stop when the file clears the limit you care about: an email cap, a form max, or a phone that was out of space. Further compression only spends quality you no longer need to spend.
Keep one uncompressed or lightly compressed master when the file is a deliverable you may print or edit later. Do not overwrite that master with a Maximum Compression copy unless you intentionally accept the loss.
If the file is still too large after a sensible preset, check dimensions on Image Resizer or format on a converter. The Compressor is one lever, not the only lever.
Free unlimited compression within the size rule
The Compressor is free on Vidzilla for files within the stated per-file size limit, including batch jobs. Compare before and after sizes, open the result once, then delete the heavier original if you no longer need it.
Processed uploads are not kept as a long-term library on our side. The lasting copy is the file you download to your device.

When a batch mixes images and a short video, finish and verify the image set first, then compress the video with a preset aimed at chat or web rather than Print Quality. Mixing goals in one unchecked batch is how a print master gets ruined by a mobile preset.
Store masters and compressed distribution copies in separate folders with matching base names. That habit prevents overwriting the only clean original when a Maximum Compression pass goes too far.
