What you need in front of you before you start a download

Two things on the desk before you touch the form

First: the video playing on its own page or in an app where you can copy a link to that one item. Second: somewhere on your device with room for the file you expect. Nothing is installed for this path, and no account is required to try Analyze.

If either piece is missing, stop. A channel page is not a video. A full disk turns a successful prepare step into a failed write. Clearing those two prerequisites prevents most “the tool is broken” reports.

Honest scope matters here. Private, rental, and live-only streams often refuse anonymous fetch. Confirm the video plays signed out before you spend time on paste hygiene.

Write down the title you see on the page before you paste. After several attempts it is easy to mix tabs and download the wrong clip while debugging URL hygiene.

Step one: copy the address of the single video

On a desktop, click the address bar while the video is open and copy the whole line. On a phone, use the share sheet and choose the action that copies a link.

What breaks here: you copy a collection — channel, profile, playlist, feed, or search results. Those addresses do not name one file. Open the video on its own page and copy again.

Share redirects are fine when they resolve to the watch page. If the pasted text still names a tag or a grid, you do not yet have a single-video URL.

Step two: paste cleanly into the box

Put the cursor in the field and paste. You should not need to type. Read the box before you press Analyze.

What breaks here: truncated selections, chat brackets wrapped around the URL, or a link split across two lines with a space in the middle. The text should start with http and end on the last character of the address with no interior spaces.

Trailing punctuation copied from messages is a frequent silent failure. Delete a final period or parenthesis that is not part of the real URL.

Phone share sheets sometimes copy tracking wrappers. If Analyze fails, open the link once in the browser, then copy the address bar contents after the page settles.

Step three: Analyze and read the inventory

Press Analyze and wait for the list of files. Each row shows a format or height label and a size in megabytes. Empty lists mean the page is private, blocked, removed, or not a media URL this path supports.

What breaks here: impatience — pressing download before rows appear — or assuming every site on the internet will return rows. When the list is empty after a clean paste, the host refused anonymous access or never exposed a downloadable pointer.

Collections that somehow return mixed noise are another failure mode. Go back to step one and obtain a single-item URL.

When rows appear with unfamiliar container names, pick the one your player already handles. You can remux later; you cannot finish a download you never started because of indecision.

• Rows present → choose height and size deliberately.
• Empty list → confirm signed-out playback, then reassess the host.
• Unexpected tiny size → you may have a preview stub, not the master.

Step four: choose a row that fits plan and destination

Pick the tallest row you need and can afford under free size caps. Messaging apps and email portals reject large attachments even when Analyze succeeded.

What breaks here: grabbing the top row every time without reading megabytes, then hitting the free ceiling or a destination limit. Step down one published rung when the top row is too heavy.

Pro removes daily count and size ceilings when you regularly archive large files. Free use is for smaller public clips.

Step five: download and verify before you close the tab

Start the download and keep the tab open until the file finishes writing. Prepared files expire on a short timer. Closing early wastes a count and leaves nothing useful.

What breaks here: assuming the browser’s progress chip means a complete, playable file. Open the file once in a player and check duration and resolution before you delete the source tab.

Rename with date and source. Future-you will not remember which paste produced which file in a crowded Downloads folder.

If verification fails — wrong duration, black video, tiny file — delete the bad file and repeat from Analyze rather than keeping a corrupt stub that will confuse you later.

Sites and cases this walkthrough does not pretend to cover

Paid rentals, DRM-backed storefronts, and accounts that only play while logged in are outside anonymous download. If it will not play signed out, do not expect rows here.

Live streams that never become a VOD may have nothing stable to fetch. Wait for a finished recording page when the host offers one.

Some corporate training portals block external fetch entirely. Use the employer’s approved offline path instead of a public tool.

When a host is unsupported, an empty inventory is the correct answer — not a fake progress bar.

Parallel traps people hit after the five steps

Downloading while on metered mobile data can stall large HD rows. Prefer Wi-Fi for anything near free size caps.

Browser download folders steered by enterprise policy may redirect to a network share that fills up. Confirm the real destination path.

Extensions that rewrite media requests can interfere with Analyze. Try a clean profile if a machine consistently returns empty lists for public pages that play signed out.

Not every failure is the tool. Naming the step that broke is how you fix the next attempt instead of restarting from superstition.
